Built by Hand, Forged With Purpose

Minhas Forge was founded on a straightforward idea: that a blade shaped by hand is worth more than one stamped out by the thousand. Many of our knives, axes, and jewellery pieces are hand-forged, with individual variations that reflect the making process rather than identical factory production. We're based in Kalispell, Montana, and ship worldwide.

Damascus Is Where We Started

Damascus steel is the material we know best. It's made by forge-welding layers of different steels together, then folding, twisting, or shaping the billet before the piece is ground and etched. The pattern you see isn't printed or applied; it's the layers themselves, revealed by acid.

That process is slow and unforgiving. A flaw in a weld shows up as a flaw in the finished blade, so the work rewards patience more than speed.

We Sell Our Steel to Other Makers

One detail says more about our work than anything we could claim: other knifemakers buy their steel from us.

Alongside finished pieces, we supply Damascus steel bars, rods, knife blade blanks, and axe head blanks to makers who finish their own work. Selling raw material to people who understand steel is a demanding test. They judge the billet itself, without a handle or a finish to distract from it.

What We Make

Our range reflects the kinds of work a forge has always done. For the field, hunting knives in skinner, caper, gut hook, and drop point patterns, alongside bushcraft and survival blades.

For the kitchen, chef knives from gyuto and santoku through to paring and boning knives. For the workbench and the wall, axes and tomahawks, cowboy and ranch knives, and collector blades modelled on historical patterns.

And for occasions that call for something lasting, wedding rings and pendants forged from the same Damascus as our blades.

How We Talk About Our Work

Handmade work invites exaggeration, and the knife trade has plenty of it. We try to avoid it.

We tell you what a piece is made of and what it's made for. We say when carbon steel will rust if you leave it wet, when a Damascus ring can't be resized, and when a different tool would serve you better than the one you're looking at. A knife sold on an overstated claim comes back, and a customer who feels misled doesn't return.

Every listing carries the specifications that matter for that piece: steel, dimensions, weight, and construction. If something you need to know isn't there, ask, and we'll tell you.

Made to Be Used

Most of what leaves the forge is a tool. A skinning knife should make a hunter's work easier; a chef knife should feel right after an hour of prep; an axe should still be sound after a season of firewood.

Some pieces are made to be looked at rather than used, and we say so plainly on those. But the standard is the same either way: it should be good enough that someone keeps it, maintains it, and eventually passes it on.
