Custom pendants are made to your design rather than picked off a shelf. Ours are forged from Damascus and stainless steel, the materials we work with daily in the forge and also supply as bars, rods, and blanks to other makers, so the same hands that shape a blade shape the pendant.
Damascus suits personal work particularly well. The layered pattern forms during forging and appears when the piece is etched, so even two pendants made to the same drawing carry different lines. A custom pendant design in Damascus is unique twice over: once in the shape you chose, and again in the steel itself.
Each finished piece lists its steel, dimensions, weight, finish, bail size, and whether a chain is included, so you know exactly what's arriving.

When planning a custom pendant, consider:
- Design and shape: Create a pendant around a symbol, initial, logo, drawing, or personal concept.
- Steel: Choose Damascus for its layered pattern or stainless steel for a cleaner surface and lower-maintenance care.
- Size and thickness: Consider how the pendant will hang, how substantial it will feel, and how much space is available for details.
- Finish and engraving: Discuss the desired surface finish, Damascus contrast, or engraving for names, dates, symbols, or short messages.
- Bail and chain: Check the bail size against your preferred chain, especially if you already have one.

What Can Be Customised?
Most elements of a pendant can be specified.
Shape and design
A symbol, an initial, a silhouette, a logo, or a piece adapted from a drawing you provide.
Steel
Damascus for pattern and character, or stainless for a cleaner surface and easier upkeep.
Size and thickness
Both affect how the piece hangs and how much it weighs against the chest.
Finish
A high-contrast etch makes Damascus layers stand out sharply; a softer etch gives a more even look. Stainless can be polished or left with a brushed surface.
Engraving
Names, dates, coordinates, or short messages on the back or front.
Bail
The loop the chain passes through, sized to suit the chain you intend to use.
Starting a Commission
Bring a reference. A sketch, a photograph, or even a description works; the clearer the reference, the closer the result. From there, we'll confirm the steel, size, finish, and engraving before any work begins, along with a price and timeline.
Custom-made pendants are worked in the order they're booked, so lead time depends on the queue at the time you order. If a piece is for a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas, mention the date when you enquire so we can tell you honestly whether it's achievable.
Choosing Between Damascus and Stainless
Damascus carries the pattern, and that's usually the reason people choose it. Made from high-carbon steels, it develops a patina over time and can spot if worn wet against the skin, so it suits someone who'll dry it after wearing and store it dry.
Stainless steel asks far less. It resists sweat, water, and humidity, which matters on a piece worn daily and rarely removed. It also holds fine engraved detail cleanly, which is worth considering for text-heavy designs.
For a piece that will be worn constantly, stainless is the practical choice. For one that will be worn on occasion and valued for its material, Damascus is the more distinctive.
Designing for How It Will Hang
A pendant that looks right on paper doesn't always hang right on a chest, so a few practical points are worth settling early.
Steel is denser than silver, so a design that seems modest on screen can feel substantial when worn. Thickness is the main lever: reducing it lightens a piece without changing the outline.
Long, narrow designs tend to swing and twist more than compact ones. Placing the bail carefully, or using two bails on a wide piece, keeps the pendant facing forward.
Thin projections such as fine lettering or narrow points are the parts most likely to catch and bend, so those areas usually need extra thickness.
Custom Chain Pendants and What to Hang Them On
Some pieces are made to hang from a specific chain, and a few practicalities apply to custom chain pendants of any design.
Match the metals where you can. A steel pendant on a softer chain will gradually wear the chain at the bail, so a stainless chain is the sensible pairing for steel.
Size the bail for the chain, not the other way round. A 4mm curb chain won't pass through a bail made for a fine cable chain, so if you already own the chain, measure it before the design is finalised.
Length places the piece. An 18-inch chain rests at the collarbone, 22 inches sits mid-chest, and 24 inches and longer suits larger designs. Custom chains and pendants can be planned together if you'd like the proportions matched from the start.
Custom Pendant Jewelry as a Gift
Custom-made jewelry pendants make strong gifts because they don't need a size, unlike a ring, and they carry something no bought piece can: a design chosen for one person.
Common commissions include a date, a set of initials, a symbol with family meaning, or a shape that references something the wearer cares about. Custom pendants for chains someone already owns work well when you know what they wear daily.
If you're marking the same occasion across more than one gift, our custom engraved work covers knives and other pieces from the same forge.
Caring for a Custom Piece
Dry the pendant after heat or exercise, since sweat is the main cause of spotting on carbon-based Damascus. Take it off before swimming, and keep aftershave, perfume, and lotions off the steel, as they dull an etched surface.
Store it dry and apart from other jewellery so nothing scratches it. A light wipe of mineral oil every few weeks protects carbon Damascus; stainless needs only an occasional polish with a soft cloth. If a Damascus pattern softens over the years, it can be brought back with a re-etch.

Yes. Clearer references produce closer results, so include measurements or a sense of scale if you can.
Damascus for a unique pattern and character; stainless for daily wear, easier care, and crisp engraved detail.
Usually, depending on the design and thickness. Mention it when you enquire so the piece can be planned for it.
